Our Guest of Honour, His Excellency Ambassador Liu Xiaoming delivered a message of congratulations and a letter
from China’s Vice Premier Ma Kai on the occasion of this ‘Icebreakers’ Chinese New Year Dinner and spoke of 2015
being a “Big Year” and a “Year of extraordinary significance for China-UK relations.” You can find his speech here.
Lord Heseltine spoke fondly of his memories of China and introduced a special Icebreakers lifetime
achievement award to Lord Howe.

We recognised the contributions of old friends such as Minister Counsellor Zhou Xiaoming, and Fang Wenjian of
Bank of China as they begin exciting new postings elsewhere. We welcomed new friends to London in the form of
Minister Counsellor Mr Jin Xu and new General Manager of Bank of China, London Branch, Mr Sun Yu who arrive as
their successors. Additionally we welcomed Mr Yi Xiaozhun, deputy secretary general of W.T.O. and we were pleased
to welcome Mr Si Bingjun of PetroChina into his position as the new Chairman of CEAB in London.
We wished Barbara Woodward, who is about to take up her post in Beijing as the new UK Ambassador to China,
every success in the role, and she helped present the raffle winners with the Cathay Pacific and Shangri-La prizes.
